I am a Board Certified Internist, specializing in weight management. I have treated thousands of patients for overweight problems, over the past 30 years, many of them diabetics. I have visited the Lifestyle Center of America several times to personally evaluate their program. I spoke at length with not only their staff but with many patients actually in the program. I can honestly say it is THE BEST overall program for treating and preventing Type 2 Diabetes that I have seen. I would encourage all Type 2 Diabetic patients who are having any problems managing their diabetes to give the progam a trial. I believe you will see significant improvement in diabetic control even BEFORE "30 days!"

I have used the Ascensia Contour Monitoring System for about one year now. This is by far the easiest and one of the fastest blood sugar monitors I have seen. Here are my observations:

* Requires very little blood
* Fast readings, 5 seconds
* BIG numbers on display
* Inexpensive test strips (when bought through Amazon), see Ascensia Contour Test Strips Box of 100
* Accurate (I have tested against my doctor's meter)

This unit does exactly what I need it to do and is fairly inexpensive (I even bought a second one to keep at work).

Highly recommended!

I have tried several meters over the last year and a half, since being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. This meter is by far the easiest to use, and very handy. The preloaded strips make using it a breeze. I find it takes less time and is less of a hassle for me to check my blood sugar using this meter, so I actually do it when I am supposed to. I have not used the software to download and compile my results, but I look forward to getting it. You should read the instructions when you get it, so you know its ins and outs, but its not much different from any other meter. Its a keeper, I love mine.

I've been taking these pills for about a week. I've noticed that I have more energy in the evening, and I'm able to get up earlier in the morning w/o any grogginess. I feel like I'm getting everything I need each day and that makes me feel good.

I borrowed this book from the library. I normally do not purchase books without first reading them. This is not one of those books that will make it onto my bookshelf. It is not the miracle it claims to be.

When undertaking a lifestyle change to control blood sugar the key thing to remember is that "Your Mileage May Vary."

Buying a good meter and taking your blood sugar often will give you a far better feel for what works for you than the advice of any book.

As much as I love a serving of steel cut oats (2 carb units) with a serving of blueberries (1 carb unit) for breakfast, this kind of breakfast will send my blood sugar unacceptably high for the vast majority of the day unless I'm willing to put in a fair amount of time into some heavy cardio and resistance work. Instead, I eat eggbeaters scrambled with spinach and mushrooms with Canadian bacon on the side and exercise moderately. That is what works for me.

Grain and legume based carbs, regardless of how unrefined (I have bought and ground my own wheat for years) they happen to be, will cause *my* blood sugar to go unacceptably high and stay there for too long if consumption is not followed by a significant level of activity. I really have to watch the fruit and starchy vegetables as well. I stick to berries and low carb veggies, but even then I'll see a jump unless I chase with Metformin or activity.

If this plan were to work for me, it would be imperative that I follow it exactly. People talk about the amazing weight loss after spending time at the LCA as if it's a miracle. Anyone is going to lose in a highly controlled environment like they offer. You will continue to lose if you continue to control your environment to that level. There's no "miracle" about it. Of course, everyone needs to eat better; I'm just not convinced that vegan is the only path, much less the best path to metabolic control of blood sugar for a diabetic.

There's a deluge of misinformation on the market about diabetes. Author Riva Greenberg - also a patient - separates myth from truth in "50 Diabetes Myths That Can Ruin Your Life and the 50 Diabetes Truths That Can Save It", a fine survey identifying the fifty most common popular diabetes myths and the realities. Interviews with experts in diabetes care accompany details on not just myths, but how to use real information to manage the condition and live a longer, healthier life.

Just diagnosed with diabetes. Never really sick a day in my life, am active and don't smoke, drink, or eat fast food. So what the heck am I doing with diabetes?! For me this has been a wake up call to start living a healthier life style. Anyway this has been a very useful first book on diabetes for me. Also recommend Diabetes for Dummies and Cinnamon capsules which have been effective in keeping my sugar down.

I was diagnosed with Diabetes just a few months ago. I told the Dr. I will not take his pills, thank you! I Purchased this book How to Reverse Diabetes and I am on my way. I test my suger, per my Dr., twice a day and it has dramatically dropped within the first month. Now all my testings are in the normal range established by the lab.
You must try this method before you start on drugs that you may never go off of. This author has a book about Reversing Hypertension that has allowed me to go off my dreaded water pill and cut all my meds in half. My goal is to be completely off all meds and with this authors help I will succeed.

I normally can take a handful of pills at one time with no problems, but not so with these. There are two oblong shaped pills and four round ones. The round ones are so small they sometimes roll around in my mouth and it is a real chore to swallow them. I simply cannot take all six at one time, so I break them down into three sets of two. This works, but I sure wish it was one big vitamin or a couple of vitamins.

That being said, I'm sure there's a reason they are the way they are, and I can certainly tell a difference with taking them.

I am a type II diabetic, and things were going down hill. My feet were starting to hurt, and my eyes were giving me problems. I had gained almost 50 pounds, and nothing seemed to be able to stop this slow trip to a death I did not want to think about. I was maxed out on meds, and my doctor's next step was "just a little insulin". There was no way I was going to let that happen, but what could I do with blood sugars bouncing around with highs of 250 or more and my fasting blood sugars that were in the high 180's? Thanks be to God for creating Dr. Bernstein. After three weeks of using the 6,12,12 carb diet, my blood sugars are now down in the 80's. They stay there even after I eat, which is the real blessing, as there is no spiking of blood sugars. Not only has that happened, but I am loosing weight. I no longer have gas and chest pains that are caused from gas. If you are a type I or II, this is really a Diabetes Solution. As I see it, its a painful death, or a rich healthy life. Guess which one I picked?
Cheers
